Welcome to Youth Climate Advocacy Project, an initiative of NC Climate Action Network
The North Carolina Youth Climate Advocacy Project (NC-CAP) is made up of youth ages 12 - 20 who want to learn the facts on global warming, find their voice on this issue, and send a united message to local and national leaders. You can be a part of the solution to global warming! The time to take action is now, and we need your voice and energy to make a difference in this global challenge.
The youth will:
- participate in creative activities with local artists
- learn about community activism and how grassroots groups can affect change
- establish a voice for young people on climate change
- gain an understanding of the science of global warming from environmental educators with fun hands-on activities
- gain an understanding from local political leaders about how environmental issues are addressed by our government
- learn new communication skills
- participate in community service projects
- share ideas with peers, and get hands-on campaign experience at Youth Climate Advocacy Day
Successful completion of the trainings will culminate in the 2008 Youth Climate Advocacy Day at the NC General Assembly on June 4th. Youth will lead a press conference that will be covered by local media. Then youth will meet with state legislators to discuss climate change and deliver their personally developed message on solutions.
There is NO cost for the youth to be involved with NC-CAP. The project is being funded through the NC Civic Education Consortium Small Grants Program and youth-led fundraising projects such as a rain barrel workshop.
