About NC Climate Action Network

North Carolina Climate Action Network (NCCAN) is an intergenerational coalition of grassroots activists from a variety of environmental and social justice groups in the Triangle region of North Carolina. Our coalition was formed after members participated in a local "Step It Up" Global Warming rally as part of the first "Step It Up" National Day of Climate Action in April of 2007.

That event brought many like-minded individuals together, and we realized we could do even more to reduce carbon emissions if we worked together.

Our goal is to organize strategies and events to raise awareness of short and long term climate change issues and to motivate behavior and energy use changes among residents, businesses, organizations, and institutions in our region.

While Global Warming has been historically cyclical over the history of our planet, our carbon consumption has accelerated this current cycle to such a degree that life as we know it is severely at risk over the next 10-50 years. The human contribution to the escalating trend of climate change IS correctable over the next 10 years. But we must begin now before the conditions are irreparable.

We, here in the Tarheel state, are caring and committed. Please join us in this critical effort!
